Howard City Council

Mayor Richard Clark called the Nov. 4 meeting of the Howard City Council to order with council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson and Gary Harrod present, as well as City Clerk Joanna Hunter. Council member Jerrad Pope was absent.

The council approved the Oct. 21 meeting minutes, city bills totaling $92,140.05, to disburse the remaining 2024 budgeted funds of $7,117.65 to Howard City Library, the projected gas supply for May 1, 2025 to April 20, 2026, to use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for replumbing the pool bathhouse and to donate $100 to Elk County Wrestling Club.

The council also approved to accept the proposal from USOC for flooring wtih the expenses to come from the ARPA fund and council member Crupper will consult on color choice. The council also approved future signature ads in The Eureka Herald in support of West Elk school academic and sports advancements Other topics discussed include: Docks at lake tabled to Nov. 18 meeting, Cookson to review material options this week; Resident question concerning storage containers; Culvert to be installed on Monroe; Purchasing new gas regulators; City ID badges; Consider replacing utility service trucks; Future gas meter changes at the Senior Center; Consider a City logo; Resident sewer tap needed; Cox awning still waiting on bid; Finding a new slide to replace one damaged at Jackson Park. Council took a moment to appreciate the painting and cleanup in the business district on Wabash and the Elk County Community Foundation’s much appreciated work on the Howard Senior Center.

The meeting adjourned at 8:27 p.m.

The council also met on Nov. 18 with plans of meeting in December on Monday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
