The elections are over and we all survived. But there’s still one more ballot to drop, for your favorite privy! It’s time for the 29th annual Elk Falls Outhouse Tour and Contest, Nov. 22 - 23, the Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving. This popular festival provides a little much-needed joy and community unity with a celebration of creativity and frivolity.
Besides voting on the best outhouse, visitors to Elk Falls will be treated to some amazing home-cooked food, from apple dumplings and cowboy stew to BBQ and bierocks. There will also be a quilt show and crafts at Calvary Chapel, more crafts at the old gas station, and at the community market on Highway 160. The 1872 Keefe Homestead Museum and the Prairie Gem schoolhouse will both be open to visitors and the McCammon Joy Spreader will be giving rides across the micropolis. Bluegrass band “Beyond Reach” will be performing throughout the day on Saturday only, sponsored by Twin Valley. And of course, Elk Falls Pottery will be celebrating 48 years of fine craftsmanship with Kansas clay.
Maps and schedules will be available downtown at the Outhouse Headquarters for all the times and locations of the various events. And just in time for the festival this year, the Falls are running again!
