The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office arrested a local thrift store owner on multiple charges, following a near month long burglary investigation.
Last Tuesday, Nov. 12, Kimberly L. Gates was arrested for Burglary, Conspiracy to commit felony crime, Interference with Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Theft.
This was the second arrest made regarding a burglary in east central Greenwood County as Johnathan Smith was arrested on the same charges on Oct. 29.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the burglary on Oct. 14. According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, the burglary included a long list of household items and antiques that were taken from a residence.
On Oct. 17, a large quantity of the stolen items were recovered at Kimmy’s Closet, a local thrift store at 1501 E. River St., in Eureka.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office continued the investigation looking into leads that were given to deputies on how the property arrived at the thrift store and ultimately served two search warrants on Oct. 29 for additional stolen items at Kimmy’s Closet (1501 E. River in Eureka) and 606 N. Greenwood in Eureka.
Smith appeared for his first appearance on Nov. 5 and will again appear for Greenwood County court on Dec. 6 at 1:30 p.m. for a preliminary hearing. He is currently in Greenwood County Jail with a $15,000 bond.
Gates will appear for her first appearance hearing on Dec. 10, at 1:15 p.m. She also had a $15,000 bond, but posted bond and was released.
