Eureka USD 389 Board Of Education Held Short Monthly Meeting

The Eureka USD 389 Board of Education held a short monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 11.

The board heard from the 2024 National FFA Livestock Judging Team and fellow Eureka FFA members who traveled to Indiana recently. National FFA team members Corinne Nelson, TJ Mills and Hannah Perrier shared a PowerPoint presentation to the board regarding their recent trip to the national contest. They competed at the contest along with 2024 graduate Lyle Perrier. All four finished in the gold division and were among the top 33% in the nation and secured their national championship title and were the fourth team in Kansas to win the National Livestock Judging team title. Per FFA guidelines, this was the only state and national contest for those four Eureka FFA members in the Livestock Judging contest. Levi Jones and Cody Johnson also reported on their recent trip as they attended the National FFA Convention. Cheyenne Gardner and Tristan Milner also made the trip, but were unavailable to attend the monthly meeting. All FFA members expressed appreciation to the board for their support and time. The Eureka Herald is working on a special magazine feature to honor the National FFA Livestock Judging team. Those businesses and individuals wishing to be included in the special feature are encouraged to contact The Eureka Herald at [email protected] or 620583-5721. The board received letters from both Elissa Bogle and Caison Hamilton noting their desire to graduate at the conclusion of the fall semester. Both are expected to complete the required graduation credits at the conclusion of the first semester. The board approved the requests. Bogle and Hamilton will be able to walk with their class at graduation in May 2025, as long as they meet the requirements including completing their senior exit presentation.

Administrative reports were given by EJSHS Principal Angie Lowe, Marshall Elementary School Principal Stacy Coulter and Superintendent Scott Hoyt.

The board held a 20-min executive session for employment matters with all administration present. No action was taken.

The next scheduled Eureka USD 389 Board of Education meeting is Monday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.
