Honoring & Celebrating
Veterans Day Celebrations Planned

For more than 100 years, communities have gathered to honor our Veterans. The first celebration was held on Nov. 11, 1918 for Armistice Day. The day signified an agreement to end the fighting of the first World War as a prelude to peace negotiations. Armistice is Latin for “to stand (still) arms. In 1954, the United States Congress passed a bill to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day. President Eisenhower signed the bill which proclaimed Nov. 11 as Veterans Day.
