Patriots Dominated Mustangs In Homecoming Game, 72-0 At Halftime

The Patriots of West Elk claimed a 72-0 Homecoming win last Friday night over the Flinthills Mustangs, at halftime.

The Patriots of West Elk claimed a 72-0 Homecoming win last Friday night over the Flinthills Mustangs, at halftime.

West Elk tallied 48 points in the first quarter and tacked on another 24 points before the game was called at the halftime mark.

The Patriots tallied just 2 first downs during the game; recording 12 rushes for 79 yards and keeping the Mustangs to 22 rushes resulting in negative 45 yards.

West Elk was 2-2 in passing and tallied 2 interceptions on 2 of 4 of the Mustangs pass plays.

Penalties were the only thing that weren’t in the Patriots favor as they had seven penalties resulting in 60 yards. But, they made up for it causing 7 fumbles, recovering 4.

West Elk scored on the opening kick-off as Patriot junior Creyo Koop had a 66-yard kick-off return. The run, also by Koop was successful and the Patiots took an early 8-0 lead.

Trent Haag found Koop on a 48-yard pass for the second touchdown of the night. Th two-point conversion attempt, a run by Maddex Moreno, was successful.

West Elk’s Uriah Tillapaugh was next to score, this time on a defensive play, as the Patriots recovered a fumble in the end zone. The two-point conversion attempt was no good.

A safety would add an additional two points to the total, which was quickly answered by a 50-yard kick-off-return by Koop. He was also successful on the two-point conversion.

Koop would find the end-zone two more times; the first a 14-yard run and the second a 9-yard run for Patriot touchdowns. Haag broke the plane on the conversion attempts.

Next to score for West Elk was Garett Usry, who intercepted a Mustang pass and returned for 35-yards. Koop was successful on the two-point conversion attempt.

West Elk’s Homecoming King Evan Coble scored on a 3-yard run with Brock Baumgartel scoring the 2-point conversion. The final touchdown of the night was a 15-yard run by Kent Rierson. The two-poing conversion attempt was good and the game was called at halftime. Koop: 1 - 48 - 1 TD Usry: 1 - 3 The Patriots will travel to Cedar Vale this Friday, October 6, before traveling to Oswego Oct 13. West Elk will host Yates Center on October 20 for Parent’s Night.
