Seventeen awards, including one Top Shot in the compound division, were acquired by Greenwood County 4-H archers over the weekend as 10 local archers traveled to Wakarusa on Saturday, September 30 for the 2023 4-H State competition.
Greenwood County senior Wylee Boulanger earned the Top Shot award in the compound division. He competed in both the bowhunter and open categories. In bowhunter, he placed first in trail and first aggregate (overall with trail and FITA). In the open division, Boulanger placed second in FITA and third in trail and earned first place aggregate.
In the junior division, Chason Gulick, Fisher Hobbs and Camden Wunderlich also competed in both the bowhunter and open divisions. In the bowhunter class, Gulick placed first in FITA and first in trail earning first place overall. Hobbs placed fifth in trail.
In the open division, Gu-lick placed fifth in FITA, second in trail and second overall. Wunderlich placed fifth in trail and fifth aggregate.
Counties are also able to compete in the divisions in teams (two pre-selected individuals). Greenwood County claimed first place in the bowhunter and second in the open with archers Boulanger and Gulick serving as teammates.
Others representing Greenwood County were Jayden Smith, Savannah Bruno-Pelky, Makenna Engle, William Burkhart, Adleigh Ray and Jackson Hobbs.
