Four Eureka FFA Members joined forces for one last time last week at the National FFA Career and Development Events (CDE) contest, in Indianapolis, Ind. Eureka juniors Hannah Perrier and TJ Mills, senior Corinne Nelson and 2024 graduate and current freshman at K-State University Lyle Perrier, competed amongst 43 states and Puerto Rico, including 176 individuals in Livestock Evaluation and were named National Champions during a special ceremony Friday evening.
All four finished in the Gold division, meaning they were in the top third of competitors.
The top 10 individuals were announced with Mills finishing 9th in the nation and Nelson placing fourth.
Many in the crowd of the home Eureka football game were watching the broadcast from their phones last Friday evening and erupted as the top four teams were announced, leaving Kansas as the final team and Eureka FFA was named as the National Livestock Evaluation CDE team.
As a team, Eureka FFA placed 2nd in Reasons, 2nd in Cattle, 3rd in Sheep/Goat, 6th in Swine and 7th in Team Questions, only missing one question.
Individually, Nelson was among the top 10 in two categories. She placed 9th in Swine and 2nd in Reasons.
A special feature is being planned to showcase all of the team’s accomplishments. Those wishing to be included in the feature and congratulate the team should contact Robin Wunderlich at 620583-5721 or email [email protected].
