Area Runners To Compete At State Cross County Contests

Three Greenwood County runners, along with the West Elk Lady Patriot Cross Country team, punched their tickets to state last Saturday, Oct. 26, during Regional action.

Lady Tornado juniors Rose Buck and Britta Mongeau will represent Eureka at the 2A State meet at Wamego Country Club this Saturday, Nov. 2.

Buck was named Regional Champion, finishing the 5K with a time of 19:25.25. This will be her third state appearance. Last year, she placed sixth at 2A State at Wamego Country Club with a time of 20:09.82. She placed ninth at the 3A meet her freshman year.

Mongeau placed seventh at Regionals, setting a personal record (PR) with a 5K time of 20:27.78. This will be her second state appearance.

Also representing Eureka at the Marion Regional was senior Ethan Bauer, who also completed the race with a PR of 21:29.41.

Lady Bulldog senior Lily Hudson also set a PR last Saturday. She placed sixth at the 1A Regionals with a time of 21:24 to punch her ticket to state for the fourth time.

West Elk’s girls Cross Country team, comprised of Rachel Humphrey (22:55.83), Maggie Humphrey (24:26.25), Katherine Stewart (25:03.73) and Trinity Lewis (26:24.69) claimed the 1A Regional Runner-Up title at Wichita-Bishop Carroll last Saturday. Also representing West Elk was Noah Estrada (22:36.82).

Eureka, Madison and West Elk will be represented at the State contests in Wamego this Saturday, Nov. 2. Buck and Mongeau will compete in the 2A Girls race which begins at 10 a.m. The awards ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. Madison and West Elk will compete in the 1A Girls race, which begins at 12:20 p.m., with the awards being held at 1:20 p.m.
