Howard City Council Held Short Meeting

The Howard City Council meets bi-monthly on the first and third Mondays of the month, at 7:30 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved Oct. 7 meeting minutes, which were approved during their Oct. 21 meeting.

During their meeting on Monday, Oct. 7, the Howard City Council approved several items, including the Sept. 16 meeting minutes, payment of city bills at $121,756.49, payment of city bills from the Sept. 3 meeting of $49,789.36 (as approval was not previously noted in the minutes), the street closings on parts of Wabash and Randolph for Oct. 31, 5:30 p.m. for the annual Batson’s Hotdog Roast and the city’s Trunk or Treat, the school signature ads for West Elk in the Prairie Star for fall and winter homecomings and graduation and a letter of support for the Elk County General Public Transportation for their grant applications.

Other discussions, with no formal action, included future possible software upgrades; PWWSD#23 action, new library employee; a letter from a city resident to the council; Cox Building ramp repairs and cover was tabled until studied by councilmembers, while concrete pad for generator is to be completed as soon as possible; continued street maintenance and repainting parking lines and handicapped spaces; unused machinery at city shop and machinery repair, future replacement of small shop equipment.

Council member Gary Harrod was absent.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

The council also met on Oct. 21 and will hold its next meeting at City Hall on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m.
