Move To Week 9 With 8-0 Record • To Host Northern Heights Thursday
The West Elk Patriot football team capped off their regular season play with a 60-0 victory over Central Burden last Thursday, Oct. 24, to move to postseason action with an undefeated, 8-0, record. West Elk secured the District 1 Championship with last week’s victory during Senior/Parents night.
The Patriots will host Northern Heights for week 9 action on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 6:30 p.m. The winner will advance to regional action next week and will face the winner of the Lincoln (6-2) vs. Little River (6-2) game.
Against Central, West Elk claimed the 60-0 victory at halftime, recording 28 points in the first and 32 in the second quarter.
The Patriots only recorded 1 first down for the evening, with a total of 140 yards (77 rushing and 63 passing).
Senior Trent Haag found the end-zone six times last Thursday night, with one pass play, one rush play and one interception return. To begin the scoring, he found Garett Usry for an 11-yard pass touchdown. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful but the Patriots led 6-0. Fellow senior Creyo Koop would score the next Patriot touchdown, with a 26-yard rush. He was also successful on the two-point conversion and the team led 14-0. Haag would then score on a 34-yard interception return and the Patriots lead moved to 20-0. The final score of the first quarter was on a 12-yard run by Haag. The two-point conversion attempt was successful by Koop and the Patriots led 28-0.
Haag and Koop kept the scoring hot for the Patriots in the second. Koop scored on a 7-yard rush and Haag capped off the touchdown with the two-point conversion. Haag would then find Koop for a 31-yard and a 21-yard pass play. Haag was again successful on the two-point rush and the twopoint pass play to Usry. To conclude the scoring, Haag found the endzone on a 12-yard rush and the twopoint conversion play was successful by Usry. The game ended at halftime with a score of 60-0.
