EJSHS Held Community Service Day Last Week

The Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) embarked on a community service day on Wednesday to scrub, paint, rake and pick-up trash throughout Eureka.

The Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) embarked on a community service day on Wednesday to scrub, paint, rake and pick-up trash throughout Eureka.

They were at the lake, Phillips Cabin, the city parks, Eureka Downs, the Eureka Saddle Club Arena, Main Street, the school and so many other locations. From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. these kids were working their tails off.

The Greenwood County Cattlewomen and Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Associations decided this would be an opportunity to serve beef to the students of the community and offered to provide lunch for the day.

The Cattlewomen’s pattied up burgers and they set up in the Braden Room at Eureka Downs and the Cattlemen cooked up burgers. The kids came in shifts and the Cattlemen and Cattlewomen were able to serve over 300 lunches to the students and staff with the help of Community Linc volunteers.

“It was quite a day! So much paint was scraped and reapplied throughout the day - the city looks bright and shiny,” stated Jamie Lindamood.

Students powered by BEEF are great workers!

“Community Service Day does not happen without planning and cooperation from so many people,” stated EJSHS Principal Angie Lowe. “A big thank you goes out to the City of Eureka, Greenwood County, USD 389 Maintenance Staff, Jamie Lindamood, Cattlemen and Cattlewomen’s Associations and additional organizations who provided projects and supplies. I am so proud of and cannot say enough about our students and staff who worked extremely hard all day to make Community Service Day what it was and we believe it was a huge success,” she concluded.
