Voters across the nation will have the choice to cast votes for several offices at the federal, state, city and township levels in just a few weeks, with early voting beginning on Monday of this week.
Locally, voters will see many unopposed candidates; however, there are a few write-in campaigns in the works.
Both incumbent commissioners Ben Fox (District 3) and Paul Hodge (District 5) have noted their write-in campaigns with The Eureka Herald. On the ticket, Judd Everitt will appear for district 3 and Ron Mast will appear for district 5.
Three candidates will be appearing on the general election ticket for the first time. Clerk Deann (Edwards) McCaffree was appointed by the Greenwood County Republican committee earlier this year and is seeking election. Two others will appear on the ballot for the first time, but both are currently serving the county in their respective offices. Stacie M. Pearse is seeking the Treasurer position and Sheila Dawn Smith is running for Register of Deeds. Current Treasurer Donna Olsen and Register of Deeds Marsha Ramsey are not seeking re-election.
Sheriff Heath Samuels, County Attorney Jill Gillett, Senator for the 14th District Michael Fagg and Judges Charles M. Hart, David Ricke and Phyllis Webster will all appear on the ballot for re-election, unopposed.
District 13 House of Representative Duane Droge and US House of Representatives 4th District Ron Estes are also seeking re-election, but will be facing Democratic candidates Esau Freeman (US Rep.) and Edgar D. Chrisman (House of Rep.)
Voters will also have the opportunity to vote on whether or not to retain court of appeal judges, township trustee and treasurer positions as well as President and Vice President for our nation.
Voters within the city limitis of Eureka will also be casting a vote to continue a 1% sales tax.
