To Compete At 2A Regionals This Saturday
Four members of the Eureka Tornado cross country team claimed hardware at the Tri-Valley League meet, last Thursday, Oct. 17, at Fredonia.
Eureka junior Rose Buck was named champion in the varsity girls 5K race with a time of 19:59.86. Fellow junior Britta Mongeau was just over two minutes behind her, earning a third place finish with a time of 22:18.08. Also representing the Lady Tornadoes was freshman Reata Bogle who placed 18th at the TVL meet with a time of 33:24.10.
Two seventh graders also claimed hardware in the junior high boys 2-mile race. Nolan Morris placed third with a time of 12:48.95 and Gavin Gonzalez placed fifth with a time of 13:33.92. Also representing the Tornadoes in the junior high boys race were: Tavin Austin, 8th place, 14:39.14; Braden Buck, 10th place, 15:15.56; Henry Lindamood, 15th place, 16:55.49; and Cohen Marks, 16th place, 17:45.0.
Eureka senior Ethan Bauer competed in the varsity boys 5K race, plac-ing 22nd, with a time of 22:35.87.
High school cross country members will travel to Marion this Saturday, Oct. 26, for 2A Regional action. The top three teams and top 15 individuals will advance to the state tournament. The regional contest will be held at Marion Stadium, 305 Eisenhower Drive, in Marion. Girls will begin at 10 a.m. and boys will race at 11:10 a.m. Schools competing at the 2A Regional include: Conway Springs, Cottonwood Falls-Chase County, Douglass, Elbing-Berean Academy; Eureka, Hillsboro, Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic, Leon-Bluestem, Marion, Moundridge, Sedgwick, Udall, Whitewater- Remington, Wichita- Central Christian Academy; Wichita-Classical School Of Wichita and Yates Center. The 2A State Cross Country meet will be held at Wamego Country Club, located at 1900 Country Club Drive, in Wamego, on Saturday, Nov. 2. The 2A Girls State event will be held at 10 a.m. with awards being presented at 12:30 p.m. The 2A Boys will race at 11:45 a.m., with awards being presented at 12:45 p.m.
