Eureka juniors Rose Buck and Britta Mongeau led the way in the girls varsity 5K race at Eureka Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and claimed first and second place honors, respectively, at their home cross country meet. Buck ran the 5K race in 20:12.66 and Mongeau completed the race in 21:35.55.
Lady Tornado freshman Reata Bogle also claimed hardware at the home meet as she placed 8th in the junior varsity 5K. Bogle ran the race in 33:10.58.
In the boys varsity 5K race, Tornado senior Ethan Bauer finished in 26th place, with a time of 23:19.93.
Two Tornado seventh graders also claimed hardware as Nolan Morris and Gavin Gonzalez finished in the top 10. Morris placed second with a time of 6:04.58 and Gonzalez was fourth with a time of 6:31.53. Also representing Eureka in the one-mile race was Henry Lindamood, who placed 14th with a time of 7:42.92.
Eureka had two participants claim hardware in the boys 8th grade twomile race. Tavin Austin placed ninth with a time of 15:18.33 and Braden Buck placed 10th with a time of 15:38.72. Eureka’s Cohen Marks just missed out, placing 11th with a time of 19:11.46.

Eureka will travel to Fredonia on Thursday, Oct. 17 for Tri-Valley League action. They will then compete in 2A Regionals on Saturday, Oct. 26, in Marion. The top three teams and 15 individuals qualify for state. Teams being represented at the Marion Regional include: Conway Springs, Cottonwood Falls-Chase County, Douglass, Elbing-Berean Academy, Eureka, Hillsboro, Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic, Leon-Bluestem, Marion, Moundridge, Sedgwick, Udall, Whitewater- Remington, Wichita- Central Christian Academy, Wichita-Classical School Of Wichita and Yates Center. Girls will race at 10 a.m. and boys will run at 11:10 a.m.
