The Eureka Tornado volleyball team was seeded 14th (6-21) in the 2A Regional 2 over the weekend. Eureka will compete in Pool 3 of the regional against Pittsburg- St. Mary’s Colgan (#3. 17-18), West Elk (#6, 12-14) and Arma-Northeast (#11, 9-16). The top two from each of the four pools in Regional 2 will advance to Sub-State action on Saturday, Oct. 26, with hopes of winning their region and advancing to the 2A State Tournament. Pool 3 action will be held at Pittsburg- St. Mary’s Colgan next Monday, with the time TBD.
Other teams in Regional 2 include: Sedgwick, Cherokee- Southeast, Wichita- Central Christian Academy, Cedar Vale/Dexter, Erie, Yates Center, Oswego, Uniontown, Conway Springs, Wichita-Classical School of Wichita, Douglass, Leon-Bluestem and Udall.
Eureka hosted Erie and Fredonia on Tuesday, Oct. 8 for their annual Pink Out and Youth Recognition Night. The Lady Tornadoes junior varsity (JV) team came away with both match wins. The JV squad defeated Erie, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-11 and defeated Fredonia, 25-18 and 25-23.
Eureka’s C-team battled Erie in three sets, but came up short, 25-22, 23-25 and 5-15.
The Lady Tornado varsity team fell in both matches. Against Fredonia, Eureka lost 21-25 and 10-25. Elle Coulter recorded 2 ace serves during the match. Eureka tallied 6 kills for the match with Arabella Shepherd and Madelyn Miller each recording 2 and Brooklyn Ogden and Kinlee Sanchez each having 1. Coulter recorded the lone solo block for the Tornadoes. With assists, the Tornadoes were led by Raylee Boles who had 3, Kimber Ptacek 2 and Lydia Mason 1.
Against Erie, the Lady Tornadoes fell 13-25 and 10-25. Mason recorded 1 ace serve, 1 kill, 1 block assist, 2 assists and 5 digs. Shepherd recorded 2 kills, 1 block assist and 9 digs. Coulter recorded 1 kill. Both Ptacek and Boles recorded assists for the match with the following recording additional digs for Eureka: Sanchez 19, Miller 12, Ogden 1.
Eureka also competed at the Circle Invitational last Saturday, Oct. 12. The Lady Tornadoes went 1-3 for the day. Eureka defeated Douglass in their opening match, 25-21 and 25-15. The Lady Tornadoes fell to Eudora, 8-25 and 5-25; Lyons, 11-25 and 19-25 and Winfield, 1725, 25-18 and 23-25. Additional details from the tournament were unavailable at the time of publication.

The Tornadoes were scheduled to travel to Cherryvale on Tuesday of this week and will host their final triangular of the season. Eureka will host Neodesha and Sedan.
Eureka will then prepare for regional action on Monday, Oct. 21.
