The Lady Tornado volleyball team had a busy week last week with matches against Bluestem, Caney, Iola and Fredonia.
With the matches last week, the Lady Tornadoes began Tri-Valley League (TVL) action and ended the week with a 1-1 TVL record and a 5-16 overall record.
Eureka hosted action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, against the Lions and Bullpups.
In varsity action, the Lady Tornadoes defeated Bluestem, 25-11 and 25-23. Eureka tallied 4 ace serves with Arabella Shepherd, Madelyn Miller, Kinlee Sanchez and Alaina Westerman all recording 1. Miller led the team in kills, with 5. Elle Coulter tallied 4, Brooklyn Ogden, Shepherd and Westerman all had 2 and Kimber Ptacek had 1. Westerman recorded 10 service receptions with Shepherd and Miller each having 5 and Sanchez and Raylee Boles tallying 4 each. Ptacek recorded the lone solo block for the Tornadoes and also recorded a block assist with Shepherd. As a team, the Tornadoes recorded 14 assists with Boles leading the way with 6, Westerman 4 and Shepherd, Pta-cek, Miller and Coulter all with 1. With digs, Shepherd and Miller each recorded 9 with Coulter having 5, Sanchez 4, Westerman and Boles 3 each, Ptacek 2 and Ogden 1.
In junior varsity action, the Tornadoes claimed the win in a two-set match, 25-10 and 25-5.
Against Caney, the Lady Tornado varsity fell 14-25 and 23-25. The team tallied 6 ace serves with Coulter and Boles each having 2 and Shepherd and Miller recording 1 each. The team recorded 11 kills with Miller leading the way with 4, Ptacek had 3, Westerman 2 and Ogden and Coulter each with 1. With blocks, Westerman tallied 2 and Ogden recorded 1 with Shepherd and Ptacek recording a block assist. With assists, Westerman and Boles lead the way with 5 each and Ptacek had 1. Eureka recorded 47 digs with Sanchez tallying 12, Shepherd 9, Westerman 6, Ptacek, Miller, Lydia Mason and Coulter all with 4 and Ogden and Boles each with 2.
Eureka’s junior varsity team fell 22-25 and 14-25, and the C-team fell 16-25 and 15-25.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, the Lady Tornadoes traveled to Iola to face the Mustangs and the Fredonia Yellowjackets.
Against the Mustangs, Eureka fell 12-25 and 7-25. Ogden and Miller each recorded an ace serve. With kills, Miller and Coulter each had 2 and Shepherd tallied 1. Ptacek recorded the lone solo block and also recorded a block assist with Ogden. Ptacek also led the team with assists with 3. Boles had 2. The team recorded 19 digs, Sanchez and Boles each had 4, Mason and Westerman had 3, Shepherd and Miller both with 2 and Coulter with 1.
The junior varsity Tornadoes defeated Iola, 25-11 and 29-27.
Against the Yellowjackets, Eureka lost the three-set match, 27-25, 14-25 and 1818. Eureka’s Coulter recorded 3 ace serves. Miller had 2 and Shepherd tallied 1.
The team recorded 14 kills, with Coulter and Miller leading the way with 5, Ptacek had 2 and Ogden and Shepherd each had 1. Ptacek recorded the lone block for the Tornadoes. With assists, Boles had 6, Westerman 5, Ptacek 2 and Mason 1. With digs, the Tornadoes recorded 50. Eureka’s Sanchez led the way with 11, Boles 10, Shepherd 9, Westerman 7, Miller 6, Mason 5 and Coulter 2.
Eureka’s junior varsity also took the Yellowjackets in three sets, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-13.

The Tornadoes were scheduled to host Fredonia and Erie on Tuesday of this week for TVL action during “Pink Out” night.
Eureka will travel to Circle on Saturday, Oct. 12, for their annual tournament, beginning at 9 a.m. The Lady Tornadoes will then travel to Cherryvale on Tuesday, Oct. 15 to face the Chargers and Humboldt; before hosting Neodesha and Sedan on Thursday, Oct. 17, for Parents and Senior night. The Tornadoes will compete in 2A - Regional 2 action beginning Oct. 21 or 22. The top two teams from each of the four quads will advance to Sub-State action. Teams competing in Regional 2 include: Arma-Northeast, Cherokee-Southeast, Conway Springs, Cedar Vale/Dexter, Douglass, Erie, Eureka, Howard- West Elk/Longton-Elk Valley, Leon-Bluestem, Oswego, Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Sedgwick, Udall, Uniontown, Wichita-Central Christian Academy, Wichita- Classical School Of Wichita and Yates Center.
