A special “Fill the Boot” fundraiser will be held during the Eureka High School Homecoming football game.
The benefit is for Rhonda Williams Hurley Ward who suffered an aortic valve tear mid-September. Ward was life flighted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and underwent emergency open heart surgery on Thursday, Sept. 19.
She has been hospitalized since and has had to undergo kidney dialysis. Plans are for Ward to be transferred to Via Christi Rehabilitation Center for physical therapy and rehabilitation for a few weeks.
This Friday, members of the Greenwood County Fire Department - Central Division will be at McGinnis Field with hopes of filling the boots to assist Ward and her family with medical and travel expenses. Among those serving the Central Division is Ward’s youngest son, Rusty Hurley. Her oldest son, Dusty, previously served with Central Division but now serves with the Burkett Division.
Ward works as a paraprofessional at Marshall Elementary School, in Eureka. She also began serving as a bus driver for Eureka USD 389 this year. Over the summer, she also served the district as a full time custodian.
Monetary donations may be sent in care of The Eureka Herald, PO Box 590, Eureka, KS 67045. Checks should be made payable to Rhonda or Terry Ward.
