Fundraisers are being planned to assist a life-long Eureka resident with medical and travel expenses he is faced with, following recent surgeries and hospital stays.
Nick Ball, a 1991 graduate of Eureka Junior/Senior High School, has been dealing with an infection in his right foot since July 22. While being treated at a Wichita hospital, Nick underwent three different surgeries to rid the infection with the third surgery resulting in amputation below the knee.
Plans are for Nick to be fitted with a prosthetic. In the meantime, he will continue to have routine visits with his surgeon, infectious disease and primary care doctors every three weeks. Currently, no additional surgeries are expected/ planned.
A Pizza Hut fundraiser will be held in Eureka this Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Customers are asked to mention the fundraiser when ordering, with 20% of the sales going to assist Nick with medical and travel expenses.
Other fundraisers are also in the works. Benny’s Westside and Kelly Birkholz have donated a cooler with goodies and are selling raffle tickets at their location, 325 W. River St., in Eureka. A bake sale will be held at 206 E. River St., in Eureka on Saturday, Oct. 19. The bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue until all items are sold.
