Greenwood County Archers Claimed 20 Awards

Ten State Championships And A Top Shot Award

Nine Greenwood County 4-H archers competed at the 2024 State Archery competition at T.H.E. Archery Club on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Wakarusa. Results were delayed due to incoming weather; however, archers learned late last Monday, Sept. 23, that five Greenwood County participants claimed 20 awards.

Greenwood County was represented by Seniors (age 14-18): Wylee Boulanger, Savannah Bruno-Pelky and Chason Gulick and Juniors (age 9-13): William Davis, Noah Everly-Burtin, Fisher Hobbs, Brody Mitchell, Ruger Schouten and Camden Wunderlich.

Boulanger, a 2024 graduate of Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS), swept the senior division claiming first place in both FITA and Trail in the open and bowhunter divisions. He was also named “Top Shot” as he had the highest aggregate scoring of all competitors. This is the fourth year (third consecutive) that he has won the award. Boulanger is the son of Brad and Annissa Boulanger of rural Eureka. He is the grandson of Shirley Boulanger of Eureka and Judy Langhofer of Cassoday and the late Ed Boulanger and the late Ron Langhofer.

Gulick, a freshman at Gulick Academy, placed fourth in FITA and Trail in the bowhunter division, earning fourth place overall and placed second in FITA in the open division. He is the son of Chad and Kelli Gulick of Piedmont. He is the grandson of Teri Hamilton of Eureka, Chop and Marianna Gulick of Eureka and the late John Hamilton.

Bruno-Pelky, a junior at EJSHS, competed in the senior barebow division and earned fourth place in FITA, third in Trail and was named state runner-up overall. She is the daughter of Kristina Pelky and John Bruno of Hamilton. She is the granddaughter of Dave and Cindy Pelky of Hamilton; Mary Jo Choate of Bellevue, Neb. and Jim and Diane Bruno of Midwest City, Okla. In the junior division, Wunderlich, a freshman at EJSHS, swept the bowhunter division and placed third in both FITA and trail in the open division and was named state runner-up overall. He is the son of Wes and Robin Wunderlich of rural Eureka. He is the grandson of Allen and Linda Wunderlich of Piedmont and the late Richard and Rachel Clasen.

Hobbs, also a freshman at EJSHS, was named state runner-up in the bowhunter division as he placed fourth in FITA and second in Trail. He also placed fourth in the Trail division in the open shoot. He is the son of Gabe and Leah Hobbs of Eureka. He is the grandson of George and Marsha Ramsey of Eureka and Mark and Lynn Hobbs of Yates Center.

As a team, Greenwood County earned first place honors in the bowhunter division with a team score of 638 (Wunderlich 313 and Boulanger 325). Brown County placed second with a score of 583. Greenwood County placed second in the open division, with a team score of 622 (Gulick 298 and Boulanger 324) behind Cowley County, who had 625. In the barebow division, Greenwood County finished in sixth place, with a score of 293 (Schouten 142 and Bruno- Pelky 151).
