The Susannah French Putney (SFP) Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held their monthly meeting at the Kirby- Morris Event Center in El Dorado, at 10 a.m. on the morning of Sept. 14. This was a joint meeting that included members of the Isabella Weldin DAR Chapter from Augusta.

Special guests for the meeting were the DAR Kansas State Regent Rebecca Kline and State Corresponding Secretary Laura Renfro.

Regent Kline spoke about her Administration Theme: A Legacy of Liberty. Her project supports the placing of DAR “America 250” markers, honoring Revolutionary War Patriots, around the state. El Dorado received the first “America 250” marker to be placed in Kansas in May 2021. The next dedication is planned for May 2025 in Burrton. Secretary Renfro has been instrumental in organizing and placing these markers in commemoration of America’s 250th birthday in 2026. Grants from the Regent’s project have been given to several organizations whose mission is to provide professional support to those in need of help for Post Traumatic Syndrome (PTS) including the Robert Dole VA Hospital in Wichita. Remaining funds will be given to the KSDAR Scholarship Fund.

Did you know that the DAR is a service organization of women whose ancestors contributed to the American cause in our country’s struggle for independence? The group’s objectives of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism guide the programs, activities and focus of our work. Contact any member for more information about joining. There are experts that can help you trace your ancestry.

DAR Members planned a number of activities celebrating Constitution Week and Constitution Day around Greenwood and Butler Counties. Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing on Sept. 17, 1787, of the American Constitution and recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens. Take a moment to contemplate the challenges that the new country faced nearly 250 years ago. Spend some time re-reading the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to refresh your memory about the marvelous foresight that the founding fathers had as they were creating the foundation of the government.

SFP Members present: Teresa Bachman, Kay Catlin, Carla Cook, Sue Flowers, Nancy Gordon, Jean Groendes, Loria Howard, Deborah Keplar, Sharon McClure, Sheryl Moody, Rise Russin, Marsha Todd, Nita Whiteman and Ann Wimberly.

In addition to special guests, there were seven members attending this joint meeting from the Isabella Weldin Chapter from Augusta. They were: Jamie Barton, Amy Buchanan, Jill Grimmet, Lori Newfarmer, Nancy Olson, Betty Roy and Priscilla Templin.
