Toronto News

It is officially Fall/Autumn. Love the weather. It got downright chilly Sunday overnight. It’s time to buy some hot cocoa mix and milk; it's hot chocolate weather! Time to break out the sweaters and light blankets.

Boy oh boy, did we ever get some rain over the weekend! I've heard reports of 2-4 inches, depending on where you’re at. I was rolling towards the back door to let the dogs out and looked out the window and all I could see was white! Hurried back to grab my phone to get a picture and it had let up some but was still pouring down.

What is the most consumed vegetable in the United States?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the family of Marilyn Jones, who passed away last week. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past. May they all rest in peace.

The joy of small town living is when you call someone and you transpose two numbers but you go ahead and have a conversation anyway. I did that the other day and we talked for 15-20 minutes.

Coming up the first weekend of Oct., Saturday the 5th, is going to be a busy day. Many activities are planned that day with the Farm and Art Market and the Toronto Alumni Banquet. I think there is even city wide garage sales!

Answer: Potatoes followed by tomatoes, thanks to French Fries and pizza!

I haven't seen anyone to talk to about Cedar Creek bridge on Highway 105, but I heard they had poured concrete and were waiting for it to set up.

The musical program that was put on by the Toronto United Methodist Church Friday was very well attended. Nearly every pew in the church was full. Jesse Jack Sample entertained the crowd with some original music and then Hiroya Tsukamoto took the stage and performed several of his original compositions.

Tsukamoto is originally from Kyoto, Japan, but has been in the states for 20+ years. He has played all over our country and was in Winfield last week for the competition there at the Bluegrass festival, where he placed in the top three in multiple classes.

This was his fourth time to be in Toronto. He said he loves it here in this part of Kansas and the country. When the music stopped Kevin Lawrence, pastor of the church, said that there was a storm blowing in and that we would skip the usual visiting that takes place after Tsukamoto plays. That was a good move on Lawrence’s part as it really started raining hard about 20-30 minutes after leaving the church. Those of us in town didn't have far to go, but I hope all who drove from other towns made it home ok.

Several places around town lost electricity Friday night and a couple places got hit by lightning and lots of appliances, TV's and internet service were lost. No people were injured but there was storm damage scattered around town.

Hiroya Tsukamoto came to Toronto, straight from the Winfield Bluegrass Festival, Friday evening to play some of his original music for the crowd that had gathered at the Toronto UMC.

Jesse Jack Sample, local musician, warmed up the crowd Friday evening at Toronto UMC, with some of his original music.
