Lady Tornado Volleyball Went 1-4 At Annual Tournament

Eureka volleyball was plagued with consecutive errors during their annual volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14; but, found their rhythm in the final set, ending the day with a victory.

“We had a rough morning, but came back in the afternoon more together and with a common goal,” stated coach Faith Rucker. “Today was a good learning and growing day for us! Mentally, the girls learned about overcoming obstacles and pushing at the end for your goal as a team,” she continued.

Eureka fell to Madison, 19-25 and 15-25, Fredonia, 15-25 and 17-25, Rose Hill, 10-25 and 1225 and Independence, 1625 and 16-25. The Lady Tornadoes defeated Olpe, 25-18, 26-28 and 25-20.

Against Madison, the Lady Tornadoes collected 3 ace serves, 11 kills, 18 blocks/blocks assists, 11 assists and 45 digs. Eureka’s Alaina Westerman recorded 7 digs, 6 assists, 2 block assists and 1 solo block.

The Tornadoes tallied 2 ace serves, 11 kills, 6 solo blocks, 11 assists and 23 digs against Fredonia. Eureka was led by Madelyn Miller who recorded 9 digs, 2 assists and 1 kill.

Against Rose Hill, who went undefeated for the day, the Tornadoes tallied 2 ace serves, 6 kills, 9 blocks/block assists, 8 assists and 24 digs. Miller and Westerman again led the Tornadoes with Miller recording 8 digs and 2 assists and Westerman tallying 7 digs, 3 assists and 1 block assist.

Eureka went 16-25 in both sets against the Bulldogs of Independence. The Tornadoes recorded 4 ace serves, 8 kills, 1 solo block, 8 assists and 35 digs. Leading the Tornadoes were Kinlee Sanchez with 9 digs and 1 ace serve; Miller with 8 digs, 3 kills and 1 solo block and Brooklyn Odgen with 7 digs.

In their final match up, the Lady Tornadoes rallied and claimed their lone match for the day over Olpe. In the three sets, the Tornadoes recorded 25 ace serves, 22 kills, 12 blocks/block assists, 23 assists and 47 digs. Recording ace serves were Miller 9, Corinne Nelson 8, Elle Coulter 5, Westerman 2 and Sanchez 1. Recording kills were Laynie Winfrey 9, Coulter 5, Nelson 4, Miller 3 and Westerman 1. Raylee Boles led the team with 9 assists. Ptacek had 6, Westerman 4, Miller 2 and Nelson and Sanchez each had 1. With digs, Sanchez led the team with 19. Miller and Boles each had 8, Westerman 6, Odgen 4 and Winfrey 2. Westerman tallied 5 solo blocks with Ptacek collecting 2 solo and 2 assisted blocks and Miller (solo), Nelson (assist) and Winfrey (assist) all with 1.

Marmaton Valley and Yates Center On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Eureka traveled to Yates Center to face Marmaton Valley and the Wildcats of Yates Center.

In varsity action, the Lady Tornadoes won over Marmaton Valley 2512 and 25-16 and fell to Yates Center, 27-25, 1925 and 24-26. The Tornadoes recorded 15 ace serves, 12 kills, 3 solo blocks and 12 assists against Marmaton Valley and 5 ace serves, 16 kills, 1 solo block and 13 assists.

Eureka’s junior varsity ladies defeated Marmaton Valley 25-15 and 2510 and Yates Center 2514 and 25-15.

The Lady Tornadoes C/D teams were able to compete in a dual action at Marmaton Valley last Thursday, Sept. 12. Eureka fell 14-25, 9-25 and 9-25.

The Lady Tornadoes are off this week, with the varsity preparing for the annual Marion Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21.

“Next weekend in Marion, our goal is to continue building on our trust together on the floor, learning how important communication, supporting each other, and talking is,” stated Coach Rucker.

Eureka will travel to Marion this Saturday, Sept. 21, with action slated for 9 a.m.
