Eureka Homecoming Royalty To Be Crowned This Friday During Special Assembly

The 2023 Eureka Junior/ Senior High School (EJSHS) Homecoming King and Queen will be named in a ceremony on Friday, September 29, at 1:15 p.m., at EJSHS. The community is invited to attend.

Students in grades nine through twelve recently selected the following students as the 2023 Homecoming Court, for Queen: Brenn Hilton, Annaliese Casper, Katie Morris, Lyndsey Escareno and Makyla Gore; for King: Wylee Boulanger, Trayton Carl Beiring, Colby Altis, Cole Adkins and Lyle Perrier.

New this year on Wednesday, September 27, at Mc-Ginnis Field, there will be a Powderpuff Football game at 7:30 p.m., followed by a pep rally under the lights at 8:30 p.m. The annual parade, showcasing the candidates, class and organization floats, grand marshal and the EHS band, will leave the high school between 2 and 2:15 p.m. on Friday, September 29. The band will travel south on Jefferson Street, west on 1st Street, north on Main Street, and will turn east on 7th Street and then return to the school.

This year’s Grand Marshals are Bob and Janice Brown. The Brown’s have been married for 51 years and have a farm south of Eureka. Bob is a Eureka High School graduate of the Class of 1965 and Janice taught 3rd Grade in Eureka for 25 years. They have two children, the late Heath Brown (Class of 2002), and Abby Nelson (Class of 2007). They enjoy attending school activities of their three grandsons Jack, Max and Lee Nelson of Towanda.

The 2023 crown bearers are Marshall Elementary first graders Harper Seeley and Jad Day. Seeley is the daughter of Jared Seeley and Carrie Seeley and Day is the son of Joe and Marissa Day. They will be escorted by 2022 Homecoming King Cooper Zimmers and Queen Cady Ptacek.

The Alumni Class of 1974 will be honored during this year’s homecoming festivities. They will be given a tour of the current high school, and will ride in the parade.

Each day of Homecoming week the students will have a different theme to follow. This year the theme for the annual event is “A Netflix Original Homecoming.” Each day the students dress up according to a specific Netflix original show. The days are as follows: Monday: “All American” wear red, white and blue; Tuesday: “Outer Banks,” wear Hawaiian or Country Club; Wednesday: Community Service Day, wear painting clothes and shoes; Thursday: “Barbie,” dress like Ken or Barbie; Friday: “Emily in Paris,” dress your best.

Eureka Tornado football will be hosting Humboldt on Friday night. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. A special caravan will also be held before the game. Those wishing to participate should meet at 7th and Main Streets in Eureka by 6 p.m.

The 2023 Homecoming Court will be recognized during a special halftime ceremony.

All King and Queen candidates are members of the senior class. The following backgrounds were provided, listing the candidates’ activities they have participated in during high school.

Brenn Olyvia Hilton

Brenn Hilton, 17, is the daughter of Zach and Dawn Hilton of Reece. She is a record-setting wrestler, who placed 2nd in the TVL last year and 3rd at regionals. She has also played softball and been a member of FFA, Art Club and WILD Science Club where she is currently a STUCO representative. Brenn is also a member of the Racing Wrangler 4-H Club and Reece Christian Church. After graduation, she will attend Kansas State University to study animal science and become an animal embryologist. Annaliese Jane Casper

Annaliese Casper, 17, is the daughter of Stephen and Tonya Casper. She is a member of Girls Golf, where she has qualified for state and received an All-State Honorable Mention. She has also been involved in WILD Science, FFA, and STUCO. Outside of school, she is a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She has also been on the Honor Roll throughout high school, and in the Eureka Honors Club. After graduation, Annaliese plans to further her education by attending a currently undecided college. Katie Lee Morris

Katie Morris, 17, is the daughter of Tim Morris and Val Morris. She has been involved in Volleyball, and several clubs including WILD Science, Foreign Language Club, Art Club, Band and Yearbook. She has also been on the Honor Roll throughout high school. Katie plans to get a degree from Emporia State University to become a Kindergarten Teacher.

Lyndsey Anne Escareno

Lyndsey Escareno, 17, is the daughter of Brandon and Sara Escareno. She has been active in Wrestling, where she has placed at state each year, and received the KWCA All-State Honorable Mention. She has also participated in Volleyball, Golf and has been a Baseball manager. She has been involved in several clubs, including FFA, FCA, STUCO, Powerlifting, SADD, WILD Science Club and Art. Lyndsey has been on the honor roll throughout high school. She has held a class office each year, and is currently the Senior Class Secretary. Outside of school, she is also a member of the WILD Kansas Association. Lyndsey plans to pursue a career as a Physical Therapy Assistant or Radiology Technologist.

Makyla Joyce Gore

Makyla Gore, 17, is the daughter of Lori Gore. She has been active in cross country, track, softball, golf and wrestling where she has been a TVL champion for two years and state qualifier for one year. She has been involved in SADD, FCA, WILD Science, and Foreign Language Club. Makyla has held many officer positions, and is currently vice president of both STUCO and the senior class. She also placed first and second in TVL Art contests. She has been on the high honor roll throughout high school. Makyla plans to attend K-State, major in Environmental Engineering and minor in Spanish and International Agricultural and enter their Engineering Abroad program in Spain.

Wylee Tate Boulanger

Wylee Boulanger, 17, is the son of Brad and Annissa Boulanger. He has participated in football for four years, where he has been named a Sports in Kansas All State Honorable Mention, Grasslands 2nd Team, TVL All League Honorable Mention, and All District 1st Team Running Back. He has also been an officer for FFA and involved with Skills USA. Wylee is president of the Harmony Sunflowers 4-H Club, where he has been a member for 12 years. He has participated in 4-H Archery for 6 years and is a 3 time State Champion. He competed at the 4-H National Archery Competition where he placed 4th individually in the Nation and the team was crowned National Champions. He has also been on the Honor Roll throughout high school. Wylee plans to attend Pratt Community College and pursue a Lineman Degree.

Trayton Carl Biering

Carl Biering, 17, is the son of Josh and Lexie Biering. He has been active in high school sports including Football, Baseball and Wrestling, and the SADD and WILD Science clubs. He has also been on the Honor Roll throughout high school. After graduation, he plans to attend Flint Hills Technical College in culinary arts to become a chef.

Colby Lane Altis

Colby Altis, 17, is the son of Cody Altis and Tonya Noel. He has been active in Football and Boys Golf. He has also been a member of the WILD Science Club, FFA and Future Business Leaders of America. He has been on the honor roll throughout high school, and is currently serving as the senior class president. After graduating, Colby plans to attend Pratt Community College and pursue a Lineman Degree. Cole Lee Adkins

Cole Adkins, 17, is the son of Luke and Rhonda Adkins. He has been on the football team for four years, golf for four years, and plans to play basketball. He is serving as the treasurer of FCA and is involved in the WILD Science Club. Outside of school, he has been an active member of his church youth group, and coached Rec sports for many years. He has been on the honor roll throughout high school. Cole plans to attend college and dental school to become an orthodontist. Lyle Robert Perrier

Lyle Perrier, 17, is the son of Matt and Amy Perrier. He has participated in Basketball, Cross Country and Footbal. He has been involved in many clubs including FFA, FCA, SADD, Foreign Language Club, Skills USA and National Honor Society. He has served as a class officer as well as FFA officer throughout all of High School and is Stuco President this year. He has been an active offcer in 4-H and has been very active in his church youth group. Lyle has also been involved in the National Junior Angus Association and has been on the high honor roll throughout high school. After High school, Lyle plans to attend Kansas State University and major in animal science, eventually returning to his family’s operation west of Eureka.
