Kendall Pierce of Professional Code Compliance, LLC spoke about the services his company offers. He described how the company works and its procedures. The city council discussed policies and asked some questions, before signing a contract agreement with Professional Code Compliance, LLC for an initial term of eight months, renewable annually thereafter. The council also approved appointing Professional Code Compliance as the Public Officer, also known as Code Compliance Officer.

Jerry Harrod participated in a discussion on the City’s Construction & Demolition dump. It was determined to increase the height while remaining within the limits of the permitted capacity and to postpone expansion expenses.

The council approved: the purchase of a replacement street sign for Jefferson & Wabash and other street sign supplies at approximately $1,487; donation of $500 to the 2024 West Elk Fall Homecoming Festival; allow the Evergreen Right transportation agreement with Southern Star to extend for another five-year term; to have Clerk attend EPA grant event in Wichita; to use ARPA funds for the Cox generator and installation; to use ARPA funds to purchase two exhaust fans for the Fire Department; city bills totaling $15,460.12; and the Aug. 5 meeting minutes.

Other discussions included: City Clerk contacting local veterinarians about boarding impounded dogs; Culvert repair and replacement to prepare for future street work; Street Superintendent applications still being accepted; KORA request regarding 2021 gas price issue; Play surface at West Park to be poured in place; Pool cover was in place; Airflow in the pool snack shack for off-season; Clerk will request bids for awning over Cox building ramp.

The meeting adjourned at 8:48 p.m.

The council also met on Sept. 3 and will next meet on Monday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall.
