Senior Meat Judging Team Named Reserve Champion Overall At Livestock Sweepstakes

The Greenwood County 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Team traveled to Kansas State University on Aug. 17 and 18 to compete in the State Livestock Judging, Meat Judging, Livestock Skill-a-thon and Livestock Quiz Bowl. Team members were Lyle Perrier, Cody Johnson, Addison Westerman, Hannah Perrier, Cort Decker, Sydney Lindamood, Henry Perrier, Jorja Beeman and Henry Lindamood.

The Greenwood County 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Team traveled to Kansas State University on Aug. 17 and 18 to compete in the State Livestock Judging, Meat Judging, Livestock Skill-a-thon and Livestock Quiz Bowl. Team members were Lyle Perrier, Cody Johnson, Addison Westerman, Hannah Perrier, Cort Decker, Sydney Lindamood, Henry Perrier, Jorja Beeman and Henry Lindamood.

The Senior Meat Judging Team was named Reserve Champion Team Overall. The team placed Second in Retail Identification and second in Oral Reasons. Team member Hannah Perrier was 5th high individual overall and Westerman was 8th high individual overall. Johnson and Decker completed the team. L. Perrier competed as an individual in the Meat Judging Contest for the Sweepstakes points.

The Intermediate Meat Judging Team was 5th High Team Overall. The team was second in placings, 5th in Retail Identification and 3rd in Questions. Henry Perrier was 10th high individual overall placing 3rd in Questions. Beeman was 4th in Placings and S. Lindamood was 7th in Questions.

The Livestock Judging Team of L. Perrier, Hannah Perrier, Westerman and Johnson was 4th High Overall Team finishing 5th in sheep judging, 5th in swine, and 3rd in reasons. L. Perrier was named 3rd high individual overall; placing 6th in cattle judging and 2nd in reasons. Hannah Perrier was 6th high individual overall finishing 5th in swine judging and 10th in cattle. Judging as individuals in the Livestock Contest were Decker, S. Lindamood, Beeman, Henry Perrier and H. Lindamood.

The Livestock Skillathon Team of Hannah Perrier, Westerman, Decker and Beeman placed 10th Overall in the contest. Judging as individuals were H. Lindamood, S. Lindamood, and Henry Perrier. L. Perrier and C. Johnson judged as individuals in the contest for the Sweepstakes points.

The Livestock Quiz Bowl Team was seeded 12th, as determined by the qualifying exam, to make it to the head-to-head rounds of the Livestock Quiz Bowl bracket. They were defeated in the first round by the Southwind District Senior Team that ultimately went on to win the contest. The Team finished the contest in 12th place. Team members were Westerman, Johnson, Decker and Henry Perrier.

The Overall Sweepstakes Cont e st inc l udes tabulation of cumulated points in Senior Meat Judging, Livestock Judging, Skillathon and Quiz Bowl. Greenwood County finished 6th Overall in the Sweepstakes Contest.

L. Perrier was named the Champion High Individual in the Overall Sweepstakes Contest. This is his second year to consecutively win the buckle for the Champion High Individual. Hannah Perrier was 5th High Individual in the Overall Sweepstakes Contest.

Three of the Greenwood County Team members now get to compete for a chance to make the Kansas State 4-H All Star Teams. L. Perrier and Hannah Perrier have qualified for the Kansas State 4-H Livestock Judging Team. Westerman and Hannah Perrier have qualified for the Kansas State 4-H Meat Judging Team. Each of the All-Star Team qualifiers will join other qualifiers from all over the state to earn a chance to make the teams that represent Kansas 4-H and compete at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest at the NAILE in Louisville, Ky. in November and the National 4-H Meat Judging Contest at the American Royal Livestock Show with the contest being held at Kansas State University in Manhattan.

Many of the goals that were set by this team back in February were accomplished by their hard work and dedication. They did a great job representing Greenwood County 4-H at the state level where the competition was truly the best of the best in the state.
