The Howard City Council meets routinely on the first and third Mondays of each month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Aug. 5 council meeting, which were approved at their most recent meeting.

Andrea Mull, representing the West Elk Fall Homecoming Festival, noted the date for the festival is Sept. 21. The slate of events will be the same format as previous years with music in the evening. The 21st is also the weekend of Fabulous Finds on Highway 99 and the Figure-8 Races at the fairgrounds. The committee will confirm streets to be barricaded and the parade route is to be approved by the City Council at a later meeting. The Festival Committee will get extra trash dumpsters this year.

Mull also presented the donation request.

Karen Gardner asked that council members prioritize Walnut Street on the list for future repairs. The council directed Clerk Joanna Hunter to note Walnut Street on the list of streets to consider for future projects.

The council approved the July 15 meeting minutes and payment of city bills at $119,459.10.

Other discussion included: Scheduled City Wide Clean-up for Oct. 5; hearings for RNR and 2025 Budget for Sept. 3; New Bluetooth speaker needed before next year at the pool; North culvert at Wabash & Ohio; Street sign destroyed by vehicle last week; Advertising for Public Officer & Street Superintendent positions, The last four pool days are sponsored; Dog pound to be addressed at first of year; C&D closure estimate of $101,300 and current fill level; Future maintenance of water & gas service trucks; Progress on West Park play structure installation.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Howard City Council will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will open with RNR and 2025 Budget Hearings followed by the regular meeting.
