This Wednesday, Aug. 21, Eureka USD 389 will host their annual open house. Students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend the event, allowing students to bring supplies and meet their teachers. During the monthly meeting of the Eureka USD 389 Board of Education, board members once again decided to serve a free meal to those attending. The open house cookout will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on the east side of Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) (circle drive). The EJSHS commons area will also be available for those who wish to eat indoors. The Marshall Elementary (ME) open house will be held from 6-7 p.m. The EJSHS open house will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
During their short monthly meeting, the board learned that progress on the gym floor is now behind schedule. The hopes are still to be able to utilize the gym floor in October. Administrator reports were given by Superintendent Scott Hoyt, EJSHS Principal Angie Lowe and EJSHS Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Joe Thornburg and ME Principal Stacy Coulter.
Following a five-minute executive session for personnel, the board approved hiring Jessie Coe, food service and Mercedes Beckley, ME paraprofessional. The board also accepted the resignations from Angela Williams and Linda Buster, bus drivers.
The next scheduled meeting for the Eureka USD 389 Board of Education is slated for Monday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. Their annual budget hearing will be held at 5:50 p.m. A copy of the budget can be found on page 7 of this week’s edition.
