A man with Eureka ties will soon be traveling from California to New York to promote his newest film, as well as attend its premiere in Kansas City, Mo. Shaun Peterson, son of Bill and Cindy Peterson of Severy/ Climax, recently wrote and directed Lover of Men, a documentary featuring a dozen scholars who argue the personal relationships of former President Abraham Lincoln.
In an interview with Vanity Fair recently, S. Peterson shared that he became fascinated by the topic years ago while reading a provocative essay titled, Was Lincoln Bisexual? published by Vanity Fair.
S. Peterson began assembling Lover of Men during the pandemic and will soon see it come to life as the film premieres on Friday, Sept. 6. The closest premiere of Lover of Men will be in the Kansas City, Mo. area, with showings being held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7 at AMC theaters. S. Peterson was born in Kansas City, Mo., graduating from Wentzville, Mo. a suburb of St. Louis, where he was active in theater. His mother shared with our office that S. Peterson knew his career path at a young age. “We went to Star Wars when he was a young boy and as we walked out of the theater, he exclaimed that he would one day direct films,” stated C. Peterson.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in Film Production and Theater Arts at the University of California, Santa Cruz and wrote and directed his first film Living in Missouri, in 1999. He won an Emmy for Outstanding Single Camera Editing for Peanuts in Space, Secrets of Apollo 10, in 2020.
