Four-Year-Old Recovering After Being Kicked By Horse

A ranch parent’s worst nightmare came true on Sunday, Aug. 11 in rural Fall River, when four-yearold Gracie Mast was kicked in the chest by a horse as she was waiting her turn to ride.

“Despite trying my best to instill in my girls proper behavior and safety around horses, Gracie’s excitement got the best of her,” stated her mother Brandi Mast. “While waiting her turn to have another ride on the new horse at our house, she hurried up to the back half of the horse and tried to pet him,” she continued.

The family administered CPR until Greenwood and Wilson County EMS araldson rived on scene. She was transfered by helicopter to a Wichita hospital, where she continues to recover. Despite being kicked by a horse, Gracie does not have a single broken bone, brain or spinal injuries and has regained use of her arms and legs. However, she did receive a level four injury to her liver and is currently battling two viral infections and one bacterial infection.

A benefit dinner is being planned for Saturday, Sept. 21, in Howard. Additional information on the fundraiser will be included in a future edition.

Monetary donations, to assist with Gracie’s medical expenses, may be sent to Zach and Brandi Mast c/o The Eureka Herald, PO Box 590, Eureka, KS 67045.
