For Community Efforts

Toronto has been a member of Kansas Communities of Empowerment (formerly “Pride”) since 2019. Last week, Amanda Clasen, Community Vitality Agent with Southwind Extension District, presented the community with a sign to celebrate Toronto’s membership and dedication.

In the last five years, the community has logged thousands of volunteer hours in dozens of projects. “This has truly been a community-wide effort, including partnerships with the City of Toronto, Toronto Booster Club, Toronto Public Library, Toronto Senior Center, Toronto Township Board, Toronto Volunteer Fire Department, Woodson Lodge 121, several of our local businesses and over 100 individual volunteers,” stated Jessie Hoag, Toronto Pride Chairperson.

Currently, Toronto Pride is working with local partners and the Southwind Extension Agents to raise funds and search for grant opportunities so they can build a playground. The group is also working on several other initiatives to improve the quality of life for area residents and provide a positive experience for visitors.
