The Eureka Junior High Tornadoes beat the Galesburg Timberwolves Thursday 42-14.

The victory, which was earned on the Erie High School football field, evened the Tornadoes’ record at 2-2.

The ‘Wolves opened the game with possession after winning the coin toss but quickly had to punt. The Tornadoes promptly scored on a 15-yard run by eighth grader Jameson Stewart. The conversion was successful and the Tornadoes took a quick 8-0 lead.

On Galesburg’s next possession, they broke around the end of the Tornado defensive line and scored on a long run. They were also successful on the conversion so the score was tied 8-8.

Eureka took the next kickoff and scored on another run by Stewart, this one 62-yards. The conversion pass was incomplete and the score was 14-8.

After holding Galesburg to a three and out, the Tornadoes scored again, this time on a 20-yard run by eighth grader Emery Mills. This time the conversion was successful and the Tornadoes took a 22-8 lead.

The Tornadoes continued their dominance in the second quarter, once again forcing the Timberwolves to punt and turning Stewart loose on a 58-yard scamper. Once again the conversion pass failed but the Tornadoes led 28-8.

After forcing another turnover on downs, the Tornadoes scored yet again on a Stewart 38-yard run. Mills took the conversion to the endzone and the half ended with Eureka holding a 38-8 lead.

The second half, which featured a running clock, began with Eureka turning the ball over on downs and the Timberwolves responding with a 78-yard touchdown run of their own. Their conversion failed but they managed to cut the Eureka lead to 36-14. Eureka seventh grader Maddox Hughes ended the scoring on a 12-yard touchdown run, making the final score 42-14.

The Tornadoes face a tough Neodesha squad Thursday night in Eureka. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
