The Patriots of West Elk traveled to Sedan last Friday, where the football team defeated the Blue Devils, 6430.
West Elk was first to score, with an eight-yard run by Trent Haag. The two-point conversion was good and the Patriots lead 8-0. However, the Blue Devils answered back to tie the score at 8. To conclude the scoring in the first quarter, Patriot Maddex Moreno rushed for 3-yards and a West Elk touchdown. The two-point conversion was successful and the Patriots led 16-8 at the end of the first.
The second quarter was the slowest of the scoring for both teams, as the Patriots outscored Sedan, 6-0. West Elk scored on a 23-yard pass from Haag to Garett Usry. The two-point conversion attempt failed. At halftime, the Patriots led 22-8.
A total of 60 points were scored in the third quarter, with West Elk continuing to outscore Sedan, this time 28-22. The two teams appeared to go back and fourth with touchdowns with Sedan scoring on a 47-yard run to start the scoring. The twopoint conversion attempt failed; but, they cut the lead to 22-14. West Elk added six of their own with a 16-yard run by Haag. Their two-point conversion attempt failed and they returned to their 14-point lead, 28-14. Sedan answered with 8-points of their own, before the Patriots scored with a 3-yard run by Moreno and 40-yard run by Creyo Koop. One of the two, two-point conversion attempts were successful and the Patriots led 42-26. Both teams would add one more touchdown before the end of the third. West Elk led going into the final quarter, 50-30.
The Patriots found the endzone twice in the fourth, outscoring Sedan 14-0, in the final quarter. West Elk scored with a 63-yard run by Koop and a 24-yard pass from Haag to Koop. The Patriots were successful on one of the two-point conversion attempts and won the game, 64-30.
West Elk will host Flinthills this Friday, for Homecoming. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
