Do we now live in the desert? I have never been to a desert, but I’ve heard about how it gets really hot during the day and cools way down at night. Makes me wonder if we have moved to a desert.

Answer: Mexico. The story of chocolate begins with the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations, particularly the Mayans and Aztecs, who were the first known to cultivate cacao beans around 1900 BC.

These indigenous civilizations regarded cacao as a divine gift, often using it in religious rituals, medicinal practices and as a form of currency.

School is starting soon so keep your eyes open for kids going to and from school and remember to stop for school buses. The buses are carrying precious cargo!

The Toronto Volunteer Fire Department (TVFD) is holding a firefighter benefit for a member who recently suffered a stroke. She and her husband have both been members of the TVFD for many years. The benefit will be Saturday, Aug. 24 from 6-8 p.m. with a mountain oyster and fish fry. It is a free will donation for the meal and there will be a raffle for a Blackstone grill.

All proceeds for this event go to help the family with ongoing expenses. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this fundraiser.
