We live in a society where we believe we have all been named a certified critic. We share our opinions often and rarely think about the effect they may cause. We reach those opinions often times too quickly and aren’t willing to listen to others or ensure our facts are accurate. I personally believe that the rise of social media has lead to a society that needs immediate gratification. We overshare often and often take things out of context or misinterpret items that were published on social media. We often also serve as our most vocal critic. I find myself being harder on myself if I am tired and/or am surrounded by constant critiquing. These can be direct or indirect critiques. However, both have lead me down a negative path, where no rose-colored glasses are available.
Criticism isn’t always a bad thing and can help us push ourselves to be better. However, it can often get too noisy. How can we do better? Do we need to get back to not saying anything when we have nothing nice to say? Do we need to step away from social media when it gets too noisy? Or, is it simply just trying to be the best versions of ourselves we can be. We will never always agree with one another. But, can you imagine a world where we agree to disagree and maybe one day support one another? I grew up watching Pollyanna and often tried to play “the glad game.” I think it might be time to start.
To start, I am thankful for our loyal supporters. We have been blessed with the best advertisers who make it possible to print the paper; and, we have the absolute best subscribers/loyal readers. We are grateful for all those who continue to support us and allow us to continue to provide this service to our amazing community.
