Annual “National Night Out” Event To Be Held Next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, Aug. 6, the community is invited to join the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office for their sixth consecutive National Night Out (NNO) event.

Next Tuesday, Aug. 6, the community is invited to join the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office for their sixth consecutive National Night Out (NNO) event.

NNO, currently in its 41st year, is an event that is geared to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

The NNO events allow for communities to gather together with law enforcement under positive circumstances. The event is celebrated around the nation on the first Tuesday of August. (The state of Texas and selected areas celebrate NNO on the first Tuesday in October.)

The annual event will be held at Eureka City Park, also known as Riverside Park, on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The following activities will be held: K-9 demonstration, face painting, dunk tank, inflatables, explore EMS/Fire/Police vehicles, and fire truck hose down. DJ Steve Brown will be on sight and the splash pad will be open. Kansas Highway Patrol will also be on sight.

There will be free Ice Pops, Ice Cream, hot dogs and popcorn.

“This event provides a great opportunity to bring law enforcement and neighbors together under positive circumstances,” stated Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels.

“It allows our office to reciprocate the support the community has shown us throughout the year,” he continued.

Thousands of communities nationwide will participate in the 41st annual NNO crime and drug prevention event. NNO, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, will involve people from more than 17,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate.
