Another month gone. It’s hard to believe that it is August and that school starts in a few weeks. Where, oh where has the time gone?

Who was the last president( s) who chose not to seek re-election?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities; Hello, also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they rest in peace.

I read something interesting over the weekend. When it’s really hot out, do not guzzle ice cold water! You should drink room temperature water or if you’re outside working and have a cooler full of ice water, take small sips!

Chugging ice cold water can send your body into shock. It makes the body think your stomach is going into hyperthermic shock so it sends all the warm blood from your hands and feet to your stomach and you can go unconscious.

Keep this in mind as we go into this month of August, that is generally known as the hottest month of the year, and sip ice cold water! And drink plenty of it.

Answer: Lyndon B. Johnson is the only president, other than Joe Biden, to not seek re-election.

If you are a fan of the Olympics, you are in heaven right now. I used to enjoy watching the games, but so many new “sports” have been added that I just don’t understand how they are considered sports.

Synchronized swimming, synchronized diving and “breaking,” otherwise known as break dancing are, in my opinion, dancing not sports. But, that’s my opinion. Times are changing and what was once sporting events are no longer in the games, i.e., competitive dueling using wax bullets.

I know those take a lot of practice and skill but are they really a sport?

I read a funny post over the weekend: “Right now, more than ever, it is important to lock your car doors. Zucchini is coming on strong, friends and even strangers, will place a sack of zucchini in your car when you aren’t looking.” Or they place them on your porch, ring the doorbell (or not) and run!

Have you ever tried putting one of those thunder shirts on a small dog? I’m not sure which is tougher to do, that or dress a little baby! We got two of those shirts for Punky, after figuring out how to put one on, it turned out to be too small. And, the other had one leg hole and the head hole and two flaps with velcro that kept sticking to itself and making the job even harder!

Did it help? I don’t know, but she doesn’t seem to mind wearing it.

Stay hydrated for the next couple of weeks, it’s supposed to be scorching hot more days than not.

We have a new city clerk, so city hall is back to normal hours. AND - speaking of the city clerk; the surveys that were sent out earlier about lead pipes in your home need to be filled out and returned to city hall ASAP!

This is important information that the city, not just Toronto, but everywhere, need because the federal government needs this information. If you have not filled out your survey, please do so. If you need help finding out if you have lead pipes or not, contact your city hall and let them know.

This need to be taken care of ASAP.
