Gayle LeVerne (Miller) Samuels

Gayle LeVerne (Miller) Samuels of Eureka, KS, died Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 82. Gayle was born January 16, 1942, in Salina, the daughter of Judd A. and Ina LeVerne (Leavell) Miller. Her mother was a teacher and so the family moved often, living with kind families wherever her job took her. Gayle was proud to graduate with the Toronto High School Class of 1960 in Toronto. Following graduation, she attended Wichita Business College. In 1962, Gayle was united in marriage to Harold Samuels in Eureka. To this union, three daughters were born. The marriage later ended in divorce.

She worked for over 30 years as a Certified Nurse Aid at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka and also at the Eureka Nursing Home part-time until she retired. Known for her compassionate nature, Gayle was adored by her patients and colleagues alike. In retirement, she found joy in her birds, flowers and cherished time with her family, especially her daughters and grandchildren.

Gayle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eureka.

She is survived by three daughters: Lisa and husband, Cotton Gulick of Eureka; Lori and husband, Mike Allgaier of Overland Park; and Angie and husband, Scott Wheeler of Vienna, Va.; her honorary daughter, whom she loved as her own, Tammi Burtin; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Charles Darrell Miller.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Mr. Jerry Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary.
