Can you believe this cooler weather we’ve been having, especially at night and in the middle of July?! To me there’s nothing better than sleeping with the windows open, enjoying fresh air and the sounds of nature.

What is “Howbeit?” Two old houses in town that have been here forever are now gone. An old house behind the fire barn and the old big white two story house on Broad Street one block north of Main Street are now nothing but a memory.

Both structures had fallen into a sad state of disrepair. I don’t remember much about the house behind the fire barn, other than at one time it was like two houses in one. I can remember someone living in the front and the back. We delivered The Wichita Eagle both places for many years ago.

The house on Broad Street I always remembered as the place the people from California owned. They would come spend the summers there and bring their kids. Mitchell, I believe, was the name. It was always such a fascinating old place.

The person(s) who tore down the old Honor Camp buildings, tore down these two houses also.

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the families of Cathy Carlson and Phillip Slater. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

Answer: Nevertheless, however.

What is the best way to get rid of trees growing in amongst Crepe Myrtle? I usually just cut them back every spring, except last year and this year. I did finally get the trees cut back this summer and now the Crepe Myrtle are blooming.

I thought about putting something like Tordon on the stumps, but I am afraid that will kill the flowers. Does anybody have any suggestions?
