Wrathnak Archery and Range of Eureka was well represented this weekend at the Archer’s Shooting Association (ASA) State tournament at Salthawk Archery Club in Hutchinson.

A total of 76 total shooters from Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, traveled to Hutchinson to compete in a 30-target 3-D shoot. Ten of those shooters represented the Eureka business and six returned with a belt buckle.

There were a total of 23 divisions at the state contest, ranging from youth to senior.

Brad Boulanger (adult senior pins), Donna Geary (women’s senior known) and Camden Wunderlich (youth pins boys) claimed the championship in their divisions. D. Geary, along with Tammy and Matt Barnhardt, were awarded the Kansas ASA Shooter of the Year (SOY) award. The SOY award is based on a point system that requires archers to compete at a minimum of five qualifiers at four different courses and the state championship. This year, Kansas ASA shoots were held in Hutchinson, Salina, Eureka, Ellinwood, Pratt and Wichita. The season ran from March – July.

The state event concludes the Kansas ASA season.

Also representing Wrathnak Archery and Range were Wylee Boulanger, Chason Gulick, Jeremy Wharton, Clint Behrens and Curtis Geary.

About ASA

ASA 3-D archery features competitive rounds of lifelike, three-dimensional animal targets made of foam. The scoring rings are not always visible from the shooting stake and binoculars are allowed. Advanced archers must determine the distance to the target, pick a good aiming point, and execute the shot. Beginning in 2007, the ASA was the first national organization to incorporate Known Distance 3-D which provides competitors with another option, as well as providing a more accessible starting point for new competitors. The ASA uses a scoring system of 12, 10, 8, 5 or 0 points per arrow.

Scoring is based on zero points for a miss, five points are earned for a hit anywhere in the body, eight points for the largest outer scoring ring on the animal, 10 points for the five-inch circle inside the eight-ring, and 12 points for the smaller rings which are offset to the bottom and top of the 10-ring. Another circle housed in the upper rear of the 8-ring is the 14-ring which is reserved for the pro shoot-downs.

For additional information on Kansas ASA, contact B. Boulanger who is currently serving as the director of Kansas ASA.
