Greenwood County Commissioners convened for a short regular meeting on Monday, July 1.

The Road and Bridge report was given by Supervisor Allen Greenwood, who appeared by Zoom.

After sharing that routine maintenance and preparation work for the 4th of July Holiday was being completed, fees at the dump were noted as a future item slated for discussion. Commissioner Mac Obourn asked that Greenwood take a look at E25 road near Reece. Obourn noted that the culvert along this route looks to have silt problems. Potential equipment purchase was briefly discussed. Officials have been in discussion of trailer purchase. Bid costs were previously presented and came in at approximately $60,000. On Monday, consensus was reached to look at a full frame trailer. When questions were posed in regards to if any chip sealing work had been completed, Greenwood shared that Road and Bridge staff would be going to be looking at chips this Tuesday. After referencing partial ownership of two roads near Eureka, Greenwood noted the likelihood of looking to start there.

In new business, Health Department Director Vicki Lindsey was present to extend an invitation to commissioners to a program being provided by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). KDHE selected the City of Eureka to host their program in regards to improving public health. In addition to Greenwood County, an invitation is also being extended to nine other counties. Lindsey noted commissioners able to attend would need to register for the event.

A 10-minute executive session for legal was held with Legal Counsel Paul Dean and Greenwood. Following the session, no action was taken.

A 15-minute executive session for discussion of personnel including Sheriff Heath Samuels and EMS/Ambulance Director Brian Mongeau was held. No action was taken following the session.

Four sealed bids on title work were opened for the county tax sale. Following a 5-minute executive session taken for legal pertaining to this, with Dean also in attendance, commissioners voted to proceed with the bid from Greenwood County Title for $50 per parcel.

Mongeau advised commissioners that the bay at the ambulance station is not cooled and he has reached out with questions to see what it would take to cool the bay. Mongeau noted that crew members check trucks in the bay and it gets hot. Medication getting hot is also something they have to work to avoid. As such, he is looking at the cost associated with a traditional cooling system as well as the option of a mini-split. While present, Mongeau also shared that compressor work had been completed to a truck in the EMS fleet.

The next meeting of the Greenwood County Commissioners will be held on Monday, July 8 at 9 a.m.
