Greenwood County’s Lyle Perrier was recently named the Kansas 4-H Project Award winner with his 4-H Beef project book. His recognized work was accomplished during the 2022-23 4-H program year. In order to get to this point, Perrier had to first advance past the local Greenwood County 4-H record book screening. From there, he advanced on from the Southeast Area Regional Screening to the Kansas 4-H State Screening. Every 4-H Project had a winner named, with those individual 4-Hers being recognized at the Kansas 4-H Foundation Emerald Circle recognition event, held during Kansas 4-H Discovery Days, in the K-State Student Union on Thursday, June 6.
Winning qualifies Perrier to attend the 2024 National 4-H Congress event in Atlanta, Ga.
“Record keeping and project reporting are valuable skills taught to members of the Kansas 4-H program. Members are encouraged to keep a permanent record of all 4-H and non-4-H Experience and are encouraged to summarize their yearly experiences on the Kansas 4-H Project Report Form for project recognition. Through this process, youth learn how to set goals, make plans for action, and to decide how well they did with self-evaluation. They also learn how to communicate, prioritize, and be responsible with their actions,” stated Agent Ben Sims.
