The May 22 meeting of the Madison Recreation Commission was called to order by President Ty Gaines, with commission members Dylan Barnard, Paul Dean and Dallas Thompson, present. No members of the public were in attendance.

The Treasurer’s report was given. D. Thompson presented the Cash Summary Report, Revenue Audit Report from July 1, 2023 to May 31 and Expenditure Audit Report form July 1, 2023 to May 31. It was determined that a sufficient cash balance existed to complete the Budget year. The treasurer will review the files as to the total expenditure for football equipment purchases for comparison against football revenues that were collected during the same time frame.

The minutes from April 17 were read aloud and adopted by consent.

In reports by board members, on behalf of Mary Dannels Thompson, D. Thompson requested a liability waiver for the participants of the Junior High summer basketball program. The Board consented to assist with this request. Thompson noted that the outfield of the Hill Baseball Field had some rough areas and that the board should consider top dressing it with sand. The Board agreed to request using the Madison Golf Course’s top dresser to correct the issue. Dean motioned to have D. Thompson replace Jennifer Boles as a signatory on the Citizens State Bank account. The motion was seconded by Barnard and passed unanimously. Dean motioned to allow each request for any high school sports camp fees to be capped at $150 per each team sport and awarded on a first come first served basis subject to the allotted total budget of $1,500.

Director Jon Larkin reported on the status of all of the various programs. Summer baseball/softball is in full swing. The new practice schedules have worked very well in comparison to past years’ attempts to avoid conflicts with competition for practice time. Larkin reported that Brittany Barnard requested that the Skilz and Drillz Camp helpers be compensated with $15 gift certificates to Boomtown. Dean motioned to purchase 14 gift certificates as requested. Thompson seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. D. Thompson, on behalf of Bulldog Inc., offered to donate $100 towards the gift certificate costs.

Drafted from the MRC board meeting minutes. Minutes are subject to board approval.
