Newspaper Rates To Increase

With ongoing postage price increases looming, The Eureka Herald has announced that rates will be increasing.

With ongoing postage price increases looming, The Eureka Herald has announced that rates will be increasing.

“Imposing increases to our readers/advertisers is one of the worst parts of this job,” stated editor Robin Wunderlich. “We’ve been playing a game of catch up since the pandemic and we have to try and get ahead of it,” she continued. “We will continue to try an offset costs through sports photos, customized print jobs, etc., but, we must increase rates at this time to allow us to continue to serve the Eureka and surrounding communities,” Wunderlich concluded.

Advertising Pricing

Beginning June 1, advertising rates will see a 50¢ increase per column/inch.

The Eureka Herald’s per column inch rate, for regular display placements will increase from $7.25 to $7.75; classified display rate will increase from $8.25 to $8.75. Due to Kansas state statutes not allowing more than a 15% increase in a year on legal notice publications, those rates will not go into effect until July 1. Legal display advertising will increase from $7.75 per column inch to $8.75 per column inch. Public notices placed per line will also see an increase of 10¢.

Subscription Pricing

On July 1, the post office will increase rates to newspaper mailings. We believe the increase will be an increase of approximately 18% bringing just the postal increases newspapers have seen to more than 50% in less than three years. The 51% increase was noted by the National Newspaper Association in April of this year; however, individual line items, within a weekly form filed by newspapers, will see increases. Those increases will be shared when the new rates go into effect. However, in an attempt to not fall farther behind, The Eureka Herald will be increasing subscription rates as of July 1, allowing subscribers the month of June to renew at the current rates. Editor’s Note: Subscription fees cover annual services through their expiration date; meaning, if your subscription is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2024 you will be covered through that date. Subscribers have the option to renew at the current rate through June 30.

As of July 1, those renewing or subscribing to The Eureka Herald will see the following rates: E-edition and Pick-Up subscribers: $44; Mailed in Greenwood, Woodson or Elk Counties, $78; Mailed elsewhere in Kansas $90; mailed outside of Kansas $96.

Those wishing to subscribe will be paying $0.85 - $1.85 for their weekly newspaper; which factors out to be $0.07 - $0.15 per newspaper page.

The rack price of $2 per edition will remain the same.

Additional thoughts regarding the impact of recent increases can be found in Rockin’ Robin on page 2.
