An off-duty Greenwood County Sheriff’s Deputy received minor injuries last Friday, May 31, following a two-vehicle accident on Highway 99, near 70th Street.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a report of a possible three vehicle accident, shortly after noon. One of the involved drivers reported to dispatch they had non-serious injuries. Upon arrival to the accident scene, deputies were able to verify only two vehicles were involved and no serious injuries had been received by either driver.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, driven by Alan Johnson, 58, of Eureka, was northbound on K-99 Highway and was slowing down to turn left into a private drive just south of the intersection of K-99 and 70th Street. There was a stationary mail van parked on the west shoulder, south of the private drive, however, it wasn’t involved in the accident. A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by off-duty deputy Blake Fisher, 26, of Eureka, was also northbound behind Johnson’s vehicle. Fisher believed Johnson was slowing to turn right onto 70th Street and did not see the left turn signal activated on Johnson’s truck. As Johnson began to turn left into the private drive, Fisher was attempting to pass Johnson on the left side. The front left corner of the vehicle driven by Johnson struck the right side of the vehicle Fisher was driving.

Fisher was transported to the Greenwood County Hospital by EMS to be evaluated by medical staff and later released.
