Severy Man Killed In Three-Vehicle Accident

A Severy man was fatally injured in a three-vehicle accident last Friday, at approximately 11:25 p.m.

A Severy man was fatally injured in a three-vehicle accident last Friday, at approximately 11:25 p.m.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood County deputies, Greenwood County EMS, Greenwood County Fire units and the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP)responded to the report of a multiple vehicle accident on US 400 Highway near the 341 mile-marker (approximately four miles east of Severy).

According to the KHP crash report, Charles Rogers II, 61, of Severy, was driving eastbound on US 400 Highway in a 2008 Nissan Altima when the vehicle, for an unknown reason, went left of center, sideswiped a tractor-trailer traveling westbound and then went head-on into a utility vehicle behind the tractor-trailer.

Witnesses on scene reported one of the involved vehicles was on fire.

The 2005 freightliner was driven by James Deloach, 29, of Millen, Ga. He had no apparent injury.

The 2022 Ford utility truck was driven by Merlyn R. Ramsey, 48, of Fredonia. He was transported by EMS to Fredonia Regional Medical Center, for a suspected minor injury.

Rogers was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This accident remains under investigation.
