Madison Homecoming Royalty To Be Crowned This Friday

This Friday, September 22, royalty will be crowned for both Madison/Virgil and Hamilton during halftime of the Madison vs. Maranantha football game.

This Friday, September 22, royalty will be crowned for both Madison/Virgil and Hamilton during halftime of the Madison vs. Maranantha football game.

In Madison, festivities will begin on Thursday evening, beginning with a pride run at 5:45 p.m., in downtown Madison. The event will follow with a class parade. Festivities will conclude on Thursday with a bonfire at the city park, immediately following the class parade.

On Friday, a pep rally will be held at 2:30 p.m., at the high school football field. The community is invited. The pep rally will include cheers, candidate games, and class games.

The annual alumni homecoming weekend festivities will kick-off at 3 p.m. with a tail-gaiting event lasting through 7 p.m., During that time, the Class of 1973 will hold their reunion at Harry C’s Courtyard and the Masonic Lodge will be offering a pulled pork meal for a small fee at the high school.

Events will continue throughout the weekend. On Saturday, September 23, the Verdigris Valley Foundation will be holding a biscuit and gravy breakfast from 8-10 a.m. at the Sauder Center. Fabulous Finds on Highway 99 will be held in the Madison High School parking lot from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Re-union activities will be held downtown in Madison at Harry C’s, Boomtown and The Ranch from 1-6 p.m. At 6 p.m., an alumni dinner, catered by TNT Catering, will be held at Madison High School. Saturday events will conclude with a free downtown streetdance, featuring Brickhorse, in front of Harry C’s, from 8-11 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.

The final event for alumni weekend will be the Fall Classic Golf Tournament, a four-person scramble, at Madison Golf Club. Tee-time is slated for 9 a.m. To register, contact Linhart.

During spirit week, students at Madison High School will participate in the following spirit days: Monday: Barbie and Ken-dress like those icons; Tuesday: Tea/Tee Time-dress in either a golfer or tea party attire; Wednesday: Disco Day-dress like its the 70s; Thursday: Class Color Day-seniorsblue, juniors-purple, sophomores- red, freshmen-green; and Friday: Bulldog Nation- deck out in Madison gear.

Candidates for the 2023 Homecoming event include seniors: for Queen, Brooke Gaines, Avery Miller, Makenna Engle and Lucie Celte; and for King, Lane Darbro, Gannon Pyle, Cohen Luthi and Hayden Helm.

Brooke Gaines, daughter of Ty and Kim Gaines, plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and major in Meteorology. She is involved in numerous activities including volleyball, basketball, cheer, track, powerlifting, choir, band, show choir (Black & Gold), FFA, FCA, FBLA, Scholars Bowl, NHS (SAFE Team), STUCO, Madison Pacesetters 4-H Club, Greenwood County Council member, Greenwood County 4-H Ambassador and Kansas 4-H Photo Action Team.

Avery Miller

Avery Miller, daughter of Dan Baker, plans to attend K-State next fall and fulfill a degree in marketing to one day become a sales representative. She is involved in FFA, FBLA, FCA and NHS (SAFE Team).

Lucie Celte Lucie Celte, daughter of Ramsey Belt and Lara Cotte, plans to attend Kansas University where she will major in Sociology. Lucie is currently involved in basketball, track, FBLA and Stuco.

Makenna Engle

Makenna Engle, daughter of Ryan and Alana Engle, plans to attend K-State to major in Ag Communications. Makenna holds office and membership for many clubs including President of Stuco, Secretary of 4-H, 4-H council, FFA, Secretary of NHS (SAFE Team), FBLA and FCA Leader.

Lane Darbro

Lane Darbro, son of Corey and Darcy Darbro, plans to judge livestock and meats after high school. He is undecided on where and what major. Lane is involved in football, basketball, FFA and FCA.

Gannon Pyle

Gannon Pyle, son of Julia and Todd Pyle, is undecided where he wants to go but plans to eventually become an electrician. He takes part in activities including football, basketball, FFA, Flinthills Technical College, is Stuco Vice President, powerlifting, and NHS (SAFE Team).

Cohen Luthi

Cohen Luthi, son of Dallas and Sarah Luthi, plans to start off at Emporia State University then later transfer to K-State to major in Ag Business. He is involved in football, basketball, FFA, 4-H, FCA, and Stuco.

Hayden Helm

Hayden Helm, son of Adam and Martie Helm, plans to attend college and participate in collegiate sports. He plans to major in physical education so he can one day teach and become a coach. Hayden takes part in football, track, Stuco, FCA, FFA, Show Choir, and NHS (SAFE Team).

Kindergarten Royalty this year are Journie Walstrum, daughter of Megan Walstrum and Benton Barnard, son of Brittney and Dylan Barnard.

Kickoff for the annual homecoming game with be this Friday, September 22, at 7 p.m.
