Twelve Area Athletes Competed At State Track & Field Meet

A total of 12 student- athletes, from four area schools, traveled to Wichita for the 2024 State All-Class Track & Field meet, with one student claiming hardware.

Eureka sophomore TJ Mills claimed two medals at the 2A State meet, including a State Championship finish in the 200M Dash. Mills finished the race in a time of 22.78; out running second place by just .03. He set a personal record (PR) in the 200M prelims with a time of 22.52. Mills also claimed hardware in the 100M with another PR time of 10.94 to claim third place honors.

Also representing Eureka was Peyton Hare, 400M; Britta Mongeau, 1600M; and Rose Buck, 800M.

Also representing area schools at the 2A meet was West Elk’s Roman Moreno, Discus.

The Hamilton Tigers and Madison Bulldogs were represented in the 1A State Track and Field Meet by seven participants. Representing the Tigers of Hamilton was Candice Ashlock, Discus. Representing the Madison Bulldogs included: Octavian Dean, 110M Hurdles; Cruz Leiser, Pole Vault; Colton Isch, Triple Jump; Jalynn Weakley, Javelin; Caylin Luthi, 800M; and Hayden Helm, Discus and Javelin.

The annual event was again held for all classes at Wichita State University.
