West Elk High School Class Of 2024 Awarded Approximately

During a special academic banquet held on May 1, the West Elk High School Class of 2024 was awarded approximately $553,000 in scholarships.

The following is a list of scholarships, as well as future plans for the West Elk Class of 2024, as submitted by Debbie Zellner, West Elk High School Scholarship Writing Coordinator: Kierra Bartram is interested in working with animals.

Evan Coble received the American Legion – Carter Rader Post #149; Daughters of the American Revolution – Esther Lowrey Chapter Good Citizenship Award; Pat Brogan Memorial; Home Bank and Trust; Martin Family; Neosho County Community College: Panther Elite Academic, Service; Tim Perkins Memorial – Kansas State High School Activities Association Citizenship Award; Severy High School Alumni Association; West Elk Alumni Association; and the West Elk High School FFA scholarships. He plans to attend Neosho County Community College and pursue a career in HVAC (Heating Ventilation And Air Conditioning).

Dalia Cooley plans to join the workforce.

Zaven Crupper received the American Legion – Carter Rader Post #149; Wilma Eberhardt Memorial; R. E. French Family Educational Foundation; Howard High School Alumni Association; Kansas State Scholar; Hope Masonic Lodge No. 155 – 2024 Essay Contest – 3rd Place; Jan and Dick McMillan; Don Richard Memorial; Sunflower Association of Education Personnel/West Elk High School National Honor Society; Severy Community Activities; Severy High School Alumni Association; Washburn University: Cecile Strohm Brunt – Honors Program, Chemistry Department, Mary N. Fix Natural Sciences, Freshman Merit and Washburn Kansas State Scholar; West Elk High School Play Productions; West Elk High School Student Council; West Elk High School Yearbook; and the James and Alberta Young Memorial scholarships. He plans to attend Washburn University to study Forensics Chemistry.

Gunner Daugherty received the Isabella “Belle” Baumgartel Memorial; Butler Community College: Media Activity Presidential – Academic; R. E. French Family Educational Foundation; Glenn and Joyce Coble Memorial; Hope Masonic Lodge No. 155 – 2023 Essay Contest – 2nd Place; Kansas American Legion – Charles W. and Annette Hill; Kansas Sons of the American Legion – Jay B. Thielen; Minard Monical Memorial; Muskogee Creek Tribe – Supplement Higher Education Grant; and the Kyle Nevil Memorial scholarships. He plans to attend Butler Community College and pursue a degree in Creative Community/Mass Communication.

Nolan Denton received the Bank of Commerce; Four County Mental Health Services; Hesston College: Opportunity Grant, President’s Academic; Knights of Columbus – Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Minard Monical Memorial; and the Severy High School Alumni Association scholarships. He plans to attend Hesston College and study Aviation.

Miah Ellis received the Minard Monical Memorial; Olivet Nazarene University – Overflow 2023 Nazarene Youth Conference; and the Severy High School Alumni Association scholarships. She plans to attend Olivet Nazarene University and pursue a Children’s Ministry and Business degree.

Bryan Epperson received a West Elk High School FFA scholarship. He plans to attend Bethany College and pursue a Kinesiology degree.

Sawyer Ferguson plans to join the workforce.

Makaila Gillespie received the Butler Community College – Presidential – Academic; Minard Monical Memorial; Chapter R PEO; Severy Community Activities; and the Severy High School Alumni Association scholarships. She plans to attend Butler Community College and pursue a Business degree.

Jadynn Gooch received the Cowley College – Pageant; Grenola Community Club; and the Royal Neighbors of America – Grenola Kirby Chapter 5805 scholarships. She plans to attend Cowley College and study Early Education.

Chrissy Hare received the Beaumont Community Activities; Cowley College – Pageant; Kenneth Klepper Memorial; Piedmont United Methodist Church and Women; Severy Community Activities; Severy High School Alumni Association; and the West Elk Alumni Association scholarships. She plans to attend Cowley College and study Cosmetology.

Courtney Hare received the Independence Community College: Pirate Gold Academic; Tom Devlin Enterprises; Kenneth Klepper Memorial; Piedmont United Methodist Church and Women; Severy Community Activities; Severy High School Alumni Association; and the West Elk Alumni Association scholarships. She plans to attend Independence Community College and become a Veterinarian Technician.

Kodi Harshman plans to join the workforce.

Ethan Hogan received the American Legion – Carter Rader Post #149; John C. Beitz Memorial; F. E. Bliss Memorial Youth; Pat Brogan Memorial; Tom Devlin Enterprises; Elk County Farm Bureau; Missouri Welding Institute, Inc.: Recognition of Excellence, Welding Contest Award; Severy High School Alumni Association; West Elk Alumni Association; West Elk Elementary Parents and Teachers; and the West Elk High School FFA scholarships. He plans to attend Missouri Welding Institute and pursue a Welding certificate.

Draven Hughes plans to attend Cowley College and pursue Welding certificate.

Destria Knight plans to attend Independence Community College and obtain a CNA and CMA certificate.

Elizabeth Lassley plans to join the workforce.

Holton McLean received the Home Bank and Trust and West Elk High School FFA scholarships. He plans to attend Missouri Welding Institute and pursue a Welding certificate.

Tyler Moore received the John C. Beitz Memorial; Butler Community College: Dean’s Academic; Caney Valley Electric Cooperative Association; Minard Monical Memorial; V. F. W. Post #2712; West Elk Booster Club; West Elk High School FFA; West Elk High School Play Productions; and the West Elk High School Student Council scholarships. He plans to attend Butler Community College and study Business.

Emma Nault received Labette Community College: Merit and Academic scholarships. She plans to attend Labette Community College and pursue a Sonographer career.

McKinzie Sheel plans to attend Independence Community College and obtain a CNA and CMA certificates.

Martin Shipley received the Seneca-Cayuga Nation Indian Tribe – Education Fund and the Educational Supply Fellowship Fund scholarship. He plans to attend Haskell College and pursue a Business Administration degree.

Savannah Stroot received the Richard Adams Memorial; American Legion Auxiliary – Carter Rader Unit #14; American Legion Girls State – Samsung; Caney Valley Electric Cooperative; Kansas Electric Cooperative Leadership Camp – Caney Valley Electric Cooperative; Glenn and Joyce Coble Memorial; Daughters of the American Revolution – Esther Lowrey Chapter; R. E. French Family Educational Foundation; Howard High School Alumni Association; Hope Masonic Lodge No. 155 – 2023 Essay Contest – 3rd Place, 2024 Essay Contest – 1st Place; P. E. O. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and pursue a Political Science degree.

UriahTillapaugh received the West Elk High School FFA scholarship. He plans to attend the North Central Kansas Technical College – and pursue a career in PHVAC (Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning).

Traten Wade plans to join the workforce.

Christina Winters plans to join the workforce.

Kayla Wright plans to join the workforce Jayda Wright-McDonald received the Jan and Steve Cunningham Nursing; Emporia State University: Academic and Housing; Minard Monical Memorial; and the Severy High School Alumni Association. She plans to attend Emporia State University and pursue a Nursing degree.
