Twelve Area Athletes Competed At State Track & Field Meet

Four area schools were represented at the State Track & Field Meet, held at Wichita State University, in Wichita last Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25.

Four area schools were represented at the State Track & Field Meet, held at Wichita State University, in Wichita last Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25.

Four Eureka Tornadoes, six Madison Bulldogs and one each West Elk Patriot and Hamilton Tiger made the trip to compete, with hopes of returning home with hardware.

One Tornado did just that and claimed the top honor in the 200M dash in class 2A, as well as bringing a third place finish in the 100M. Eureka’s TJ Mills finished the 200M in a time of 22.78, to be named state champion. Mills recorded a personal best in the 100M finishing with a time of 10.94 to claim third place.

Also representing the Tornadoes were Peyton Hare, Britta Mongeau and Rose Buck. Buck: placed 9th in the 800M with a time of 2:25.23. Mongeau placed 13th in the 1600M with a time of 6:06.98. Peyton Hare qualified in the 400M but jumped the gun in preliminaries and was disqualified from the race.

Representing the Tigers was Candice Ashlock, who placed 14th in the Discus, with a throw of 95-1.

Six Bulldogs competed in seven events. Octavian Dean placed 14th in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 17.06. Cruz Leiser placed 12th in Pole Vault with a vault 12-0.Colton Isch placed 14th in Triple Jump, with a jump of 38-5.5. Jalynn Weakley placed 11th in Javelin, with a throw of 112-11. Caylin Luthi placed 15th in the 800M with a time of 2:43.32. Hayden Helm placed 13th in the Discus with a throw of 130-11 and placed 10th in Javelin with a throw of 150-4.

Representing the West Elk Patriots was Roman Moreno who placed 14th in Discus with a throw of 114-11.
